A singular noun prefix common to the Nguni languages and found in some words originating in these languages. For examples, see indoda, induna, inkundla, inkwenkwe.
- Note:
- In the Nguni languages, the plural of a word beginning in- is formed by replacing the prefix with ama-, ii-, iin-, or izin-; in South African English this pattern is not always observed, and the plural is sometimes formed by the addition of the English plural suffix -s to the singular form. See also ama-, ii-, and izin-.
