Acknowledgements

The Dictionary Unit for South African English (DSAE) gratefully acknowledges major annual funding from the Pan South African Language Board (PanSALB), as well as supplementary support from our host institution, Rhodes University, and research grants from the Ministry of Science and Culture, Lower Saxony, Germany and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) between 2015 and 2017.

Thank you to our collaborators from the University of Hildesheim, Germany and the University of Stellenbosch, as well as the several developers, systems development assistants and freelance editors who have worked intensively on the online dictionary project at different times – these are listed individually under Project Staff and Collaborators. Additionally we would like to thank Lynette Sparrow for administrative support essential to the project (2013–2018), and Professor Ian Bekker (Northwest University, Potchefstroom, South Africa), Frances Gillis-Webber and Lorna Morris for giving generously of their time to provide specialist input on aspects of the electronic edition. A further debt of gratitude is due to Jill Wolvaardt (Executive Director of the DSAE from 2004 to 2017) for continual, unreserved support of the project and ongoing encouragement.

Finally, we acknowledge those who produced what became the first, printed edition of this dictionary from its initial conception and planning stages to its subsequent research, administration and compilation in a collective effort spanning 26 years: the 3 Editors-in-chief, 24 editorial and research staff and 8 clerical staff listed here.
