1786 G. Forster tr. of A. Sparrman’s Voy. to Cape of G.H. I. 295Here there is said to grow a herb, called by the colonists p— grass, and which..is, probably, a species of euphorbia. This is said to be frequently eaten by young cattle.., which thereby get a dysentery, or stoppage of urine, that often proves fatal.
1954 Mönnig & Veldman Handbk on Stock Diseases 248Farmers in Clanwilliam, Laingsburg, Uniondale and other districts call certain Euphorbia species pisgras or pisgoed and they maintain that these plants do not cause the formation of calculi but only an inflammation of the urethra.
