A concertina with twenty keys, each of which produces only one note, unlike an English concertina, each key of which produces two; boere concertina, see boere sense 1 b. See also boeremusiek.
1980 E. Prov. Herald 27 Oct. 13And his big surprise? A genuine boerekonsertina. This is more tricky to play. It has only 40 notes against the usual 80, has a more gentle tone, but is ideal for certain pieces.
1985 A. Goldstuck in Frontline Feb. 21There are two basic concertinas — one is known as the boere konsertina, very simple with 20 keys. One key is one note whether you push in or pull out.
