uilbaard, noun

Origin:
AfrikaansShow more Afrikaans, uil owl + baard beard.
A beard worn as a fringe round the face, with cheeks and mouth clean-shaven.
1972 A.A. Telford Yesterday’s Dress 121Judging from old portraits, it would seem that numbers of Voortrekkers were unshaven, with full beards and moustaches. Some, however, shaved the area of the cheeks and mouth, leaving a growth under the chin known as an ‘uilbaard’.
1975 D.H. Strutt Clothing Fashions 217Those who did shave removed the moustache and all the hair on the face, leaving a fringe right round it from sideburn to sideburn and under the chin. This was the uilbaard (owl beard).
A beard worn as a fringe round the face, with cheeks and mouth clean-shaven.
