le-, prefix
/le/
A Sotho and Setswana singular noun prefix found in some words originating in these languages.
- Note:
- For examples, see kgotla, Lekgoa, makatane. In Sotho and seTswana, the plural of words beginning le- is formed by replacing this prefix with ma-. This pattern is not always observed in South African English, and the plural is sometimes formed by the addition of the English plural suffix -s to the singular form. See also ma- prefix2.
