Etymology unknown.
Any of several species of plant of the genus Senecio (family Asteraceae), especially S. isatideus, suspected of causing (or known to cause) poisoning in livestock. See also Molteno disease plant (Molteno sense b).
Note:
The disease associated with this poisoning is called dunsiekte (sense 1 b) or Molteno disease (see Molteno sense a).
